sing a song for us tonight: duran duran

July 9th, 2008 · 8 Comments

Sing a Song for Us Tonight is a segment where people choose a song that is special to them and explain why. Today’s guests are Warthog and Mrs Hog. They’ve chosen Duran Duran and their song Ordinary World. A special thanks to Mrs Hog. Here’s their story.

You know France….they kiss on Main Street and gaze in awe at their world famous piece of scrap iron, La Tour d’Eiffel…to give it its correct name. France is a wonderful place to drive through and I like the people who are very into piss take and irony for the most part. If they can see you don’t take yourself too seriously they will usually warm to you.

Anyway, we love travelling in France….the scenery, the little crossroads or centre ville hotel bars, the vineyards etc. etc. During one of our beautiful ‘long jaunt’ holidays to the Perpignan region - the autoroute also eventually splits off to Spain so there are loads of Dutch people in VW campers, Belgians etc. on it who are usually heading to Barcelona rather than S.W. France - Duran Duran’s The Wedding Album was always on the cassette player. It was wafty like the scenery. Mrs Hog has an abiding memory of that time.

If you’ve got a story about a song you’d like to share, don’t be shy, please email me

I must say the bride in this vid clip looks like she got her dress on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honor

You may say that, I couldn’t possibly comment.

I love both this song and the dress! What year did it come out? Reminds me of another videoclip featuring a wedding dress - November Rain. Can we have that rock epic please? I look forward to your comments squib.

what’s to smirk about? they’re great! i thought you would at least have an appreciation by now through your late night rage education as they’re a regular choice of guest programmers.

Hmmm… Kong Foo Sing is also a common choice

Do you have a November Rain ’sing a song for us tonight story’? That would work

One of my all-time favourite songs too, despite it being by Duran Duran. Sad, longing, wistful and yes, it made it on to our ‘backing music tape’ for our garden wedding!
