a ’special’ offer from my internet provider

I got a phone call from Bigpond the other day

Bigpond woman: Hi, we’re just calling people on our old defunct Internet plans and asking them if they would like to upgrade at no extra cost. At the moment your old plan gives you a maximum monthly download of 10GB at 512 Kb speed but our new 12GB Liberty Plan means you get 12GB at three times the speed for the same price. So would you like to upgrade?

Me: Oh well that’s jolly nice of you, super, thanks

So the nice Bigpond woman put us on a plan with a faster connection at no extra cost and… nah not really

So the nice Bigpond woman put us on the wrong plan which has a 600 MB monthly maximum download with 20MBs speed. We’ve never used more than 7GB a month so this new plan would cost the monthly $59.95 plus 15 cents per Kb over 600 MB or to put it another way, our new plan would cost us $1019.95 PER MONTH

And the really brilliant part is, they can’t change us to correct plan for another MONTH. Why?

Not only that, the onus is on us to call them on a specific date in order to change it back

Oh cheers very much Bigpond

We are currently struggling with Optus to change our home phone and Knickers’ mobile - which the salesman at the Optus shop was just a simple matter of calling.
Optus - if you want a heavily pregnant and emotionally brittle woman snarling at you just transfer her call 4 times and then tell her she’d need to go back to the shop to sign a contract.

Hmmm - doesn’t seem like we’d fair any better at Telstra.

    Good luck.
