During the school holidays, I watched Terminator, Free Willy, and Ten Things I Hate About You
Terminator: I always thought I’d seen this until recently when I explained to MrSquib that it was set in a jungle. No, that’s Predator apparently and that involved an alien (I watched it from behind a cushion so I’m a bit fuzzy about it all) whereas this involves a cyborg
Cyborgs are great (except in postmodern feminist theory when you have to write a 3000 word essay about them and suddenly they aren’t much fun). This movie was quite good but I couldn’t get a handle on the exact quantum physics with the whole time travel/fathering a child before you exist stuff
Free Willy: This was actually really good. Seriously this was better than I thought
Ten Things I Hate About You: Right near the end of this movie I yelled out ‘Oh that guy with the long hair is Heath Ledger!’ and I got an extreme ‘derr’ stare from my oldest daughter and her friend
I think if I watch enough of these feel-good prom flicks I might be able to reprogramme the bad memories from my own school ball. Eventually I will tell my grandchildren that I went to the ball with Heath and Letters to Cleo were the main act

Weirdly, I just read a 3000 word essay that involved both cyborg postmodern feminist theory AND “Ten Things I Hate About You.”

You’d never seen Terminator? My God. So you went all those years without getting the “I’ll be back” references?
Still, I can’t talk. I’ve never seen ET.

My God. So you went through all those years without getting the ‘ET phone home’ references?

I saw “The Arena” with Margaret Markov and Pam Grier for the 183rd time yesterday.
I still don’t know who won in the end.

Have you seen any films that came out after 1974?

Saw a couple of good flicks on the Quantas plane (Business Class of Course) on my recent trip to the cold and wet motherland. And the motherland didn’t let me down (bless her) - peeing with rain and cold.
Smashing…!
Anyway, the 2 films in question are:
- Candy
- Two Hands
Both excellent films - check em out - no need to fly business class, you can probably hire them at yer local video hire shop.
