can any of you lot read persian?

April 5th, 2008 · 11 Comments

Years ago, one of my poems was published in an Iranian booklet (I can’t remember the name of the university involved and the front cover only has La Tour D’Eiffel on it). This booklet has always been a beautiful little mystery to me because the only poem in it that I can read is my own. But still, maybe someone can tell me what this says? (I hope it’s something nice!)

This has since been translated as follows (the freckle part made me laugh!)

an Australian friend ,,,,,,,,from the other side of ocean ,,,,,,is staring at you through the monitor and something common , something fade and beautiful and strong is eating us ( taking us in ) little by little ,,,,,,,her name is Meredi ,,,,, a poet ,,,,,,,,with whatever title you like to call her ,,,,,Surreal ,,,,Classic ,,,,,,,Real,,,,,,, Modern or post modern
we’re being connected by poem to each other and that’s how she writes to us with her freckle face of local Australians and cute English ( language ):

    I can read it easily
    It says…

    Oh squiggly squiggly squiggly squiggle
    Oh squiggly squiggly squiggle
As the squiggly squiggles squiggly squiggle
    And the squigglies squiggle too.
