blues & roots festival 2008: fremantle

Pictures from Saturday at the Esplanade, Freo (click to enlarge - sorry a couple are blurry)

The Basics were fantastic - not sure why they had such a small crowd though

Angus & Julia Stone. Julia was swirling and twirling in her swishy blue dress with a flower in her hair. Very Woodstock

Mr American Pie

KT Tunstall - sounded very American for a Scot. Great voice though I noticed she didn’t get any applause after one of her songs

Xavier Rudd and Aborginal Dance Group. The dancers were superb

ian-brown.jpg

Ian Brown was running half an hour late (technical problems). The crowd did Manchester United style chants. Ian was brilliant and resembled a marathon runner with a tambourine. I was disappointed he didn’t sing Illegal Attacks

Sinead O’Connor clashed with Gotye so we missed most of her performance. Gotye was also disappointed to miss her

Gotye = genius. This was the highlight for me, followed by Ian Brown, The Basics, and what little I heard of Sinead O’Connor

    Didn’t realise K.T. was there.

Hope you didn’t take too many drugs.
Although at my age aspirin is quite good for thinning the blood and preventing heart attacks.

No, I was high on natural pain endorphins from wearing such ridiculously uncomfortable shoes

    Gotye was excellent
And Ian Brown was good as he did 3 or 4 Stone Roses numbers
and as for that swirly swishy blue dress……..

Looks like pan seco con queso for dinner for you

I am surprised you enjoyed Ian Brown. I thought he was terrible! Drunk, or on drugs, arrogant and unapologetic for being late. He slurred into his mike and sang mostly off key. Those in our group that could be bothered staying to listen to him agreed that it was truly painful!
I agree with you about Gotye though, he was awesome. Having the whole crowd screaming out American Pie was a pretty special experience as well. :)

Really? I didn’t think he was off key at all. Shows what finely tuned ears I have!

Two years ago at Southbound I was so looking forward to seeing him, being a big Roses fan, but he was jogging on the spot (there may have been air boxing as well) and slurring then too. I couldn’t stay til the end. Back to rehab Ian.

Squib did you see The Black Keys or Michael Franti??

  • 9 Stoned Rosie // Mar 18, 2008 at 9:13 am

    Nin
You were not at the same concert as I was. I was stood near the back and didn’t see many people leaving. Maybe you just needed a drink or something.

Oh my! I think we have some controversy!

Erm HW The Black Keys/Michael Franti weren’t there. In any case, well Franti isn’t my cup of tea

I don’t care what anybody says, Ian was tremendous
