If you happen to get volume 52 of Westerly, this article by Ross Bolleter is superb. Bolleter is a co-founder of the whimsical World Association for Ruined Piano Studies. He plays and composes music on ruined pianos
Death comes eventually to every piano. And dead, they sing a different kind of song(Bolleter, Westerly 2007)
In this article, Bolleter describes the cultural history of ruined pianos in Australia, ways to play ruined pianos, and the Ruined Piano Sanctuary, amongst other things. The article is so beautifully written that is barely resembles an article at all

Just had a little look at his website - love it! Especially the number 2 story where he was on holiday with his family and a station owner at Cue wanted to show him their ruined piano…
” I wasn’t keen to look at it; this was meant to be a holiday and I’d seen wrecked pianos before.
This one was so totally done for however that I was totally won over.”
